Fernández Condemns US Military Operation in Venezuela

Buenos Aires, January 3 (NA) — Former President Alberto Fernández questioned the military action carried out by the United States in Venezuela, which resulted in the capture of Nicolás Maduro and his wife. Fernández considered that this "violates the fundamental principles of international law" and defined it as "Trump's unbearable attitude, which counted on the prior complicity of the Nobel Committee". According to the Argentine News Agency, the former official, through his social network X, attacked Donald Trump, whom he accused of carrying out military attacks in Caracas and other points of Venezuelan territory, and maintained that these facts "put multilateralism principles at risk". Fernández was also critical of the Nobel Committee, which "awarded a person—referring to Marina Corina Machado—who demanded US military intervention in Venezuela". Meanwhile, the lawyer described the event as "a serious military aggression against a sovereign nation," while adding that it "also implies a serious threat to the peace that prevails in the region". Additionally, Fernández urged Latin American governments to unite in defense of peace and called for not validating a military escalation in the region: "I beg that the Latin American governments unite with the superior purpose of making the peace that has prevailed in the region for decades prevail." In this context, he asked the current Argentine government to refrain from supporting military actions: "I call for reflection on the libertarian government of Argentina so that it stops supporting such an outrage and does not add our society to the unacceptable military escalation being carried out by the scandalous Trump administration."
